Theory: Electrostatics

Coulomb's Law defines the electric force between two point charges as directly proportional to the product of their magnitudes and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them (\(F = k_e \frac{q_1 q_2}{r^2}\)). Electric field lines flow out of positive charges (sources) and into negative charges (sinks). Equipotential surfaces represent areas of equal electric potential.
